Develco was responsible for the development of electronics, while GPV had the responsibility for the mechanic integration and production. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-meets-high-technical-demands\">Meets High Technical Demands<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The V-ECU is the central engine control unit in Volvo\u2019s construction equipment like e.g Articulated Haulers, Wheel Loaders, and Excavators. In use the Volvo construction equipment is exposed to harsh environments such as violent vibrations, dirt, temperature fluctuations, moisture etc. Consequently, Volvo had high demands to the electrical and mechanical robustness of the engine control unit. Despite Develco\u2019s extensive expertise within development of electronics for the automotive industry it was a challenge to develop the specified electronics for the engine control unit and to meet the high technical requirements.   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/develco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Volvo-foto-1_Div.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4417\" width=\"446\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/develco.eistrupweb.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Volvo-foto-1_Div.webp 446w, https:\/\/develco.eistrupweb.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Volvo-foto-1_Div-300x212.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-high-accuracy\">High Accuracy<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The complex finished Volvo Engine Control Unit (V-ECU) has both analogue and digital technology, over 2400 components, and high component density. The many I\/O with OBD (On Board Diagnostics) represented a great challenge for both the electrical and the thermal design. The high safety requirements demanded OBD on all I\/O to ensure that the Volvo Engine Control Unit determines whether a given output functions properly as intended or perhaps is shorted, interrupted, or does not work for some other reasons.  <br\/><br\/>To enhance the safety margins, the V-ECU was designed to comply with significantly tightened EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) requirements according to the applicable regulatory requirements. The V-ECU is designed to be consistent with the requirements for an IEC 61508 SIL2 classification (Safety Integrity Level 2). In addition, the product is tested with 20g<sub>rms<\/sub> in 32 hours, HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) to 50g<sub>rms<\/sub> and IP65.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-long-product-lifetime\">Long Product Lifetime<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Volvo control engine unit is designed to have an expected product lifetime of 30 years. As the product meets all the technical and safety requirement, Develco and GPV have in co-operation developed a high-quality product with a guarantee of a long product lifetime value. <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group case-project-facts is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2c90304e wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-project-facts\">Project Facts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expected Product Lifetime of 30 Years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analogue I\/O with High Accuracy (0.02%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital I\/O with up to 3 Amps.
